Maine Travel Guide: Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park

Travel Guide for Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia National Park

Every year, Rob and I made a commitment to go on an anniversary trip, just the two of us. We alternate each year from tropical, relaxed destinations to adventure destinations. This year we traveled to Bar Harbor, Maine and explored Acadia National Park. In this guide, you’ll find all of our favorite restaurants and spots that are a must see and do!

Where to Eat

Being that it was off-season for Bar Harbor, many restaurants had closed for the season. Which, by the way, October is a BEAUTIFUL time to go if you don’t mind some chillier days and love avoiding crowds.

  • Geddy’s

What To Do and See In Acadia

  • Cadillac Mountain (the most magical sunrise you’ll ever see, it’s the first time the sun is seen in the United States.)

  • Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse (Prettiest at sunset!)

  • Thunder Hole

  • Sand Beach

  • Precipice Trail (The most daunting but AMAZING hike/climb. If you have a fear of heights, avoid at all costs!)

  • Jordan Lake and Jordan Lake Trail

  • Carriage Roads (We biked the carriage roads, and it was one of the best, most unique experiences!)

  • Otter Cliff

  • Bubble Rock

  • Bar Harbor Island Land Bridge

Where to Stay

We stayed at the lovely Harborside Hotel Spa and Marina. We actually didn’t stay in the main hotel–we were lucky enough to snag one of their four suites in their new boathouse. It sits right on the water and is off by itself (next to the main building), complete with rooftop hot tubs. It really gives a unique experience of staying right on the water!
